Thousands of higher education institutions around the world are encouraging all students and staff to get vaccinated against COVID-19 for the 2021/22 school year, with many even making vaccination mandatory while preparing to continue in-person teaching.
According to information provided by the University Vaccine Requirements Checker, a new tool recently launched by the educational research platform, Erudera.com, a large number of universities located in many European countries are currently requiring students and staff to show a COVID-19 vaccination card in order to be eligible for Personal education.
Some of the institutions listed below also accept a negative test result, while students may also request waivers from the requirements for medical or religious reasons.
In Austria, some universities that require students, staff and faculty to get the COVID-19 vaccine include:
University of Salzburg University of Graz, Vienna, University of Economics and Business, Graz University of Technology, University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna
Two Belgian universities that have so far announced the mandate of the COVID-19 vaccine are the University of Antwerp and Artvelde University College. However, students in the country were reluctant to get vaccinated but ended up getting vaccinated after the government decided that Belgian residents would have to show a health permit in order to be able to access restaurants, bars and fitness clubs.
Meanwhile, in Germany, some major universities are also requiring their students to get the COVID-19 vaccine, such as:
University of Düsseldorf, University of Stuttgart, Humboldt, Technical University of Berlin, University of Berlin, Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences
Famous French universities, including Sciences Po, Aix-Marseille University, University of Lorraine, and University of Rennes are among the universities in France that have instituted such a policy.
The Italian University of Padova, the University of Bergamo, the University of Palermo, and the University of Calabria also require their students to show proof of vaccination.
