Vatican City State the Only European Country Included in Latvia’s Green List

The Vatican City remains the only European country considered epidemiologically safe by the Latvian authorities, and therefore it has been placed on the Green List.

This rule means that the Vatican City state has recently reported low rates of coronavirus infection as the green list consists of countries deemed safe in terms of a COVID-19 case, reports.

In addition, according to the authorities in Latvia, the following regions outside the European Union also belong to the green list: New Zealand, Indonesia, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau.

Travelers from Green List countries who have been fully vaccinated against the virus are not required to follow additional entry requirements such as testing or quarantine requirements when planning to enter Latvia.

At the same time, people who have not completed the immunization process against the virus, as well as people who have not recovered from the green-listed areas, are required to undergo the COVID-19 testing process before traveling to Latvia.

Authorities in Latvia have consistently categorized other regions into green, orange and red groups, taking into account their COVID-19 infection rates.

While the green list includes regions with low rates of COVID-19 infection, the orange list consists of countries that have been severely affected by the coronavirus and its new strains in the past two weeks. As for the red list, it includes the regions that were most recently affected by the virus.

The changes applied in classifying other countries into the above categories have been made, taking into account data provided by the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC).

Currently, the orange list includes the following European countries:

Andorra Austria Belgium Bulgaria Croatia Czech Republic Cyprus Denmark Finland France Germany Greece Hungary Iceland Ireland Italy Latvia Liechtenstein Lithuania Luxembourg Malta Monaco Netherlands Norway Poland Portugal Romania San Marino Slovakia Slovenia Spain Sweden Switzerland

As for countries outside the European Union, the following has been placed in the orange list, which means that they have recently reported high rates of COVID-19 infection.

Uruguay United Kingdom Qatar Bahrain Kuwait Peru Colombia United Arab Emirates Chile Saudi Arabia South Korea Rwanda United Kingdom

All people from the Orange List regions who have not been vaccinated against the virus are required to follow testing and quarantine requirements upon arrival in the Baltic state.

The authorities in Latvia accept PCR results of no more than 72 hours or antigen test results of no more than 48 hours.

According to figures provided by the World Health Organization (WHO), Latvia has recorded a total of 488,329 cases of COVID-19 and 4,987 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

In addition, authorities in Latvia have reported more than 66,000 cases of COVID-19 in the past seven days, while 64 people lost their lives during the same period.

Due to the increasing number of COVID-19 infections in Latvia, the country’s authorities have announced that they will postpone the deadline for its citizens to receive the booster dose.
