Netherlands Registered 2,520 Asylum Applications in February

A total of 2,520 applications for international protection were registered in the Netherlands during February, which is a slight decrease compared to January’s numbers (2,727), according to data provided by the Immigration and Naturalization Service.

Data provided by the Immigration and Naturalization Service showed that the number of applications for the first time in February was 1,601, while it was during January 1962.

“The number of repeat asylum applications increased in February to 147. In January, the number increased to 118. The top five countries of origin of asylum seekers who filed repeated asylum applications are Iran (25), Nigeria (18), Iraq (17) and Afghanistan (13) and Algeria (8),” stated the statement published by the Ministry of Justice and Security.

Figures previously provided by Statistics Netherlands revealed that around 25,000 people applied for international protection in this country last year.
