The Government of Greece has published all the necessary information for those who wish to obtain a COVID vaccine passport for travel purposes.
In a press release issued by the Ministry of Health, it was revealed that in order for the passport to be issued, those who obtain it must hold a Greek identity card containing the holder’s details in Latin letters or a generic passport, TheSchengen.com reports.
Greek citizens can obtain an EU digital passport as long as they provide proof that they meet one of the following statements:
They have been vaccinated against COVID-19 in all required doses and have recovered from the virus and have a negative COVID-19 test result نتيجة
Furthermore, all persons who obtain the passport are required to provide their personal taxi network passwords and their Social Security number.
The ministry confirmed that the validation of the passport is made only at specific entry checkpoints through a special system developed by the European Union.
“This certificate is not a mandatory travel document. Scientific data on vaccination, diagnosis and recovery for COVID-19 continues to evolve, also taking into account new variants of the virus. Before you travel, check the public health procedures in place and relevant restrictions that apply to your destination,” As stated in the ministry’s statement.
The EU COVID-19 passport was created by the European Union in an effort to restore freedom of travel that has been suspended for more than a year now since the outbreak of the pandemic across the bloc. By implementing such certification, the authority aims to remove travel restrictions such as entry bans, quarantines and testing requirements.
Despite the common belief that a passport will look like an ordinary travel document, in reality, it will be a one-page document issued in either the digital or print version.
In addition, the passport will contain a unique QR code with which the authorities can verify its authenticity and integrity and recognize its authenticity. A digital signature will also be included.
Depending on the type of passport that Greek citizens wish to obtain, the document will include the following information about its holder:
Name, surname, date of birth, QR code for the issuing country
“When traveling, each holder of a digital green certificate will have the same rights as nationals of the visited member state who have been vaccinated, tested or recovered,” the EU Commission said.
Previously, on June 1, it was announced that seven EU countries, including Greece, had already started issuing EU passports for COVID-19. The other countries are Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Croatia and Poland.
So far, more than half of EU member states have started issuing and verifying COVID-19 vaccination passports.
