The Hellenic Aviation Authority (CAA) announced that passenger air traffic increased by 82.6 percent this month, compared to the same period in 2020.
In a press release issued by the Civil Aviation Authority, statistics for 2021 showed that there was an increase of 53.7 percent compared to the first eight months of August 2020, while in 2019, when no ban was imposed, the figure was 53.8 percent higher. TheSchengen.com report.
Moreover, the total number of passengers reached 20,727,553 million, an increase of 53.7% compared to 2020, when more than 13 million passengers were received.
On the other hand, the number of Greek airports reached 235,570 flights, of which 103,755 were domestic flights, and 131,815 were foreign, an increase of 38.6 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2020, during which 169.999 flights were operated.

Regarding the flights operated from January to August 2019, which numbered about 368,414, there is a 36.1 percent decrease in aircraft traffic and 53.8 percent in passenger traffic which was at pre-pandemic levels of 44,895,202.
Moreover, August 2021 statistics reveal an upward trend in the arrival of foreign travelers, recording an increase of 82.6 percent and 47.2 percent in flights.
In conclusion, passenger traffic has improved in Greece, especially in terms of foreign arrivals, with 3,3042,098 of those arriving in the country during August. Compared to the same time last year, when 1,666,222 passengers arrived, an 82.6 percent increase was detected.
The total number of domestic and international flights operated this year was 71,248, registering an increase of 47.2 percent compared to the same month of 2020, when 48,400 flights were operated. The Civil Aviation Authority said last month that passenger traffic rose by 140.6 percent, with arrivals registering an increase of 146.8 percent in July 2021 compared to the same time last year. However, compared to the same season in the pre-pandemic era, tourism declined by 63.5 percent.
