As the COVID Delta continues to spread rapidly within EU countries, French authorities have announced that the country will set strict rules against unvaccinated people traveling from the UK, Spain and Portugal.
Such a decision was announced by French Minister of State for European Affairs Clement Bonn after the three countries identified increasing numbers of people with the delta variant, TheSchengen.com reports.
“Among the countries, the augmented regime is also for the UK: for the non-vaccinated, 24 hour testing is required initially (in addition to the dominant cause),” Boone said.
As per the newly announced procedures, all unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated travelers entering France from the UK will now be allowed to enter the country only for essential purposes and will be obligated to submit a negative COVID-19 test result taken within 24 hours prior to entry.
Previously, unvaccinated British travelers were allowed to enter Spain on the condition that they present a negative test result obtained within 72 hours of entry.
For immune travelers wishing to enter France from the UK, they can enter the country without presenting an essential purpose of their trip and without being subject to quarantine requirements. However, they are still required to provide a negative coronavirus test result of no more than 72 hours.
In order for it to be considered a complete vaccination against the disease, the French Foreign Ministry indicated that travelers should have been immunized with one of the vaccines authorized by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and accepted by state authorities.
It should be noted that France, unlike many countries in the European Union, does not recognize the Covishield AstraZeneca vaccine made in India.
Besides the UK, Pune said the country will also tighten restrictions on all people traveling from Spain and Portugal.
“Among the classified countries, Spain and Portugal will be subject to enhanced monitoring: the required test initially should be 24 hours for unvaccinated people,” Boone said.
Despite the two countries being placed on France’s green list, unvaccinated people traveling from Spain and Portugal will now be subject to stricter entry restrictions.
Thus, unvaccinated people traveling to France from one of the two countries will have to submit a negative COVID-19 test result no more than 24 hours later. In contrast, fully vaccinated travelers will not be subject to any of the measures.
In addition to the new restrictions imposed on the three countries, Beaune revealed that unlike foreigners, French citizens living abroad will continue to have access to a free COVID-19 test.
French people living abroad continue to benefit from free PCR and antigen tests in contrast to the non-residents of whom they became responsible.”
Previously, French authorities announced that tourists now have to pay for their own COVID-19 tests.
