Baltic Countries, UK & 46 Other Countries Added to Bulgaria’s Unsafe Travel List

From October 30, unvaccinated and non-exhausted travelers from the Baltic states and other EU countries, as well as third countries arriving in Bulgaria, are required to undergo quarantine and testing requirements as COVID-19 infection rates rise in the countries.

Moreover, the Foreign Office issued a press release revealing that the UK, Georgia, Armenia and other countries in the European Union were all placed in the red category, TheSchengen.com reports.

However, entry rules do not apply to all who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and those who have previously contracted the virus. In other words, all holders of EU COVID-19 digital certificates and EUDCC-equivalent vaccination certificates are exempt from entry requirements.

Moreover, vaccination certificates from North Macedonia, Turkey, Ukraine, San Marino, Vatican City and Switzerland are also recognized as valid by the Bulgarian authorities.

In general, all non-vaccinated red countries and non-exempt travelers are required to follow these rules to enter Bulgaria:

Submit PCR test performed 72 hours before entering the country, self-isolate for ten days upon arrival

Travelers can reduce their isolation time by taking a PCR test within 24 hours upon arrival in the country.

At present, the EU member states in the red category in Bulgaria are Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Romania, Slovenia, Croatia and Slovakia.

Moreover, the third countries located in the European continent that were also placed in the red category include the United Kingdom, Georgia, Armenia, Ukraine, Moldova, Montenegro and Serbia.

The remaining countries in the red category are as the following list shows:

Bangladesh Myanmar Bhutan Sri Lanka Maldives Botswana Tanzania Seychelles Namibia Zambia Oman Turkmenistan Tajikistan Kyrgyzstan Mongolia Chile Uruguay Brazil Paraguay Bolivia Suriname Panama Costa Rica Guatemala Belize Belize El Salvador Cuba Dominican Republic Fiji Saint Lucia Saint Kitts and Nevis Grenada South Africa Barbados

Furthermore, the green category consists of countries from Finland, Vatican City, Luxembourg, Denmark, Italy, Spain, Malta, Sweden, France, Monaco and Portugal.

Non-vaccinated and non-exempt travelers from green countries are required to present a pre-departure test certificate, which must be taken 72 hours before arrival in Bulgaria.

Moreover, the same rule applies to travelers from orange countries, which are all countries not on any of the previously mentioned lists.

According to the data of the last 24 hours provided by the World Health Organization (WHO), 5,643 positive cases and deaths from COVID-19 have been recorded in Bulgaria. The country remains one of the least immunized in the European Union, with only 25.3 percent of the population fully vaccinated against the virus.
