Airline Says EU Travel Demand for Easter Has Significantly Increased

Lufthansa Group has revealed that the demand for travel over the Easter holiday has increased significantly.

According to a press release from Germany’s national carrier, the company recorded a fourfold increase in new booking rates compared to the same period in 2021 due to the concessional travel rules.

This increase indicates that the concessional new rules currently in place across the European Union are beginning to restore travelers’ confidence, reports.

To meet the growing demand of people who want to spend their vacation in a warm country, Lufthansa has decided to offer more than 50 additional flights from Frankfurt and Munich.

To meet the growing demand, especially for ‘sunseekers’, Lufthansa is now offering at short notice or over the upcoming Easter holiday over 50 additional flights to and from Frankfurt as well as Munich. From Frankfurt, vacationers can look forward to more than 30 additional flights. to the south during the Easter holidays,” as stated in a Lufthansa statement.

On the other hand, the remaining 20 additional flights will be operated from Munich. The company revealed that connections from Munich will be added to the already expanded flight schedule – twice to Faro, twice to Heraklion, twice to Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Tenerife and the Palma de Mallorca connection.

In addition, it was revealed that the most popular countries in which travelers decided to spend their Easter and summer holidays include Spain, Portugal, Italy, Cyprus and Greece.

Lufthansa added that “Barcelona, London, Rome, Oslo and Athens are in particular demand for city trips in the coming spring and summer.”

For this reason, the number of connections to these and many other cities has doubled compared to 2021.

Despite the relaxation of travel rules within the European Union, travelers still have to present one of the certificates that is part of the EU’s COVID-19 digital certificate in order to be allowed unrestricted entry. In addition, everyone should ensure that they have a valid pass.

Previously, the EU Commission advised all member states to remove non-essential travel bans on arrivals from third countries. The Commission recommended that European Union countries allow entry to third-country nationals who have been cured or vaccinated against the virus without imposing any additional rules on them. It was reported that the relaxed rules would come into effect from 1 March.

The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) praised this recommendation. The President and CEO of WTTC said it was time to rebuild the travel and tourism sector and connect Europe with the rest of the world.
